Hi
It was a cold damp Friday when we set off for Ambleside in the Lake District. We had a fantastic building to base ourselves from only problem was the heating broke so it was a bit chilly over night.
Saturday started drizzly but it did not stop our ascent of Loughrigg. The Explorers did well with map reading only managing to loose the route once. We got to the top to find it covered in fog so the view was not as good as previous years. On the top of Loughrigg we invested Bradley our newest member Explorer and welcomed Tom our one of our new leaders.
The Scouts enjoyed their ascent and were tested by the leaders all the way up to make sure they could find the route and keep together as a group.
Back at base we took part in a Ready Steady Cook with the scouts who made soup, risoto, fajitas and the Explorers made fantastic cheese cakes, apple crumble and invented a new peanut and oat crunch survival food. After watching a movie we all went to bed shattered.
Sunday dawned with a visit to Grizdale. Bad weather prevented us from helping the forestry commission to clear the woodland so we consoled ourselves with drooling over mountain bikes in the bike shop and tucking into food and drinks in the cafe whilst the younger Scouts went on the outdoor play area.
Explorers have put their photos on Winter Camp
